Cory Band have recently welcomed Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Student Matthew Fletcher to the band on 2nd Euphonium.
Matthew hails from Newcastle Upon Tyne and spent his formative years at Backworth Colliery Band & Ellington Colliery Band before becoming a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
On starting his studies at the RWCMD under the guidance of tutor David Childs he joined the Pontarddulais Band on solo Euphonium before more recently moving to the Woodfalls Band.
Matthew is no stranger to the Cory Band having been part of there winning performance at the 2013 Brass in Concert Championships and has been a regular guest since starting his studies. Musical Director Philip Harper commented ‘We’ve had our eye on Matthew ever since he started two years ago in Cardiff, and he has played with the band many times. Now we have the opportunity to welcome him as a permanent member of the team and I’m very pleased to secure such an ambitious and accomplished player for Cory.‘
Matthew has replaced David Johnson who the band thank for his time with the band, Matthew made his official debut at last weekends Festival Brass and has teamed up with Solo Euphonium Martyn Patterson.
