Cory Band will hold the next in its series of online band days on Saturday 16 Jan 2021 – and now with percussion! The Virtual Brass & Percussion Day will include three full band sessions with Cory’s Musical Director Philip Harper, sectionals and masterclasses from some of Cory’s principal players and, due to its online nature, a chance to chat to and get to know the tutors and other people from many different countries.
The full list of tutors is as follows:
- Tom Hutchinson (cornets)
- Ailsa Russell (horns)
- Chris Thomas (trombones)
- Steve Kane (euphs and baris)
- Simon Howell (basses)
- Steve Jones (percussion)
Philip Harper commented: “The day will focus primarily on giving participants an opportunity to play. I have chosen two wonderful pieces of music to work on – ‘A Malvern Suite’ by Philip Sparke, a classic brass band test-piece from 1984 with rewardingly challenging parts for everyone and joyful, whistle-able melodies; and ‘Washington Post March’ by John Philip Sousa, bringing a touch of American flamboyance and razzmatazz to proceedings just days before the Presidential Inauguration. We really think a place on the Virtual Brass Day would be the ideal Christmas present for the banding enthusiast anywhere in the world!”
The music will be shared beforehand to enable participants to practice, prepare and gain confidence before the day, although participants will need to be a minimum Grade 4 standard (or equivalent) already.
The course will be delivered on the Zoom platform, for which instructions will be provided and a stable internet connection will be required.
Places are limited, so potential participants are requested to book early, especially to take advantage of the Early Bird price offers too.
