Last night we were delighted to welcome to our rehearsal the first three participants of our Side-by-side scheme which we’re running in collaboration with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
Jennifer Richardson (cornet) from The Shirley Band, Phoebe Mallinson (flugel) from BD1 Brass and Rory Arthur (Eb Bass) from The The Egham Band all joined our regular rehearsal where Philip Harper put us through our paces on items for our concert this weekend such as Balkan Dance (Crausaz) and Variations on Laudate Dominum (Gregson), as well as rehearsing the test-pieces for our upcoming defence of the European title.
All three of them made a significant impact with their standard of performance and overall musicianship, making full contributions to the rehearsal which impressed all the regular members of the Cory Band.
Philip said: “It was great to offer a chance to these talented young people, all of whom are still at school. Their parents brought them down from places all over the UK and watched the rehearsal at our bandroom base in the Rhondda. The three participants were all extremely excited about it, and I hope it inspired them to aim high in their banding careers. I’m sure they will all do brilliantly.”
We look forward to welcoming another three young players in a few months time.
