Press release from Paul Hindmarsh Music Productions
In a change to the advertised programme, Steve Stewart, legendary soprano cornet soloist of Cory Band will now not be performing Daniel Price’s Concerto for soprano cornet in the final concert of the festival. His place will be taken by principal trombone Chris Thomas, who will play Ray Steadman-Allen’s concerto Immortal Theme, composed in the early 1960s and rarely performed. Although Steve has made a strong enough recovery from eye surgery to take his place in the band, he does not yet feel back to the peak of form that this virtuoso work demands.
Artistic Director Paul Hindmarsh comments: “I’m really sorry that we will not be hearing Steve play Dan’s piece, especially as it was written with his particular skills in mind and had been a one of the first works to be ‘inked in’ for this festival. However, to have ‘soloist of the year’ Chris Thomas as a replacement is testament to the resourcefulness and quality of this great band.”
