concerts | 28th January 2018
Cory performs as part of the RNCM Brass Festival 2018. There will be three world premiere performances, including the eagerly-anticipated new work from John Pickard, Rain, Steam and Speed. Inspired by the painting by J.M.W.Turner, the new work is a 15-minute symphonic study for band which constitutes a continual acceleration. Also on the programme is Christopher Bond’s new piece Corineus based on Cornish legends, and the first live performance of Derek Bourgeois’ Concerto for Cornet – his last composition before his death in 2017 – which will be performed by Cory Band’s Principal Cornet player Tom Hutchinson. To complete the programme is a rare chance to hear Ray Steadman-Allen’s four movement work The Beacons and another chance to hear Cory’s European own-choice piece from 2017, Destination Moon by Paul Raphael.
