DANNY JONES JOINS CORY

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Jones as our second euphonium player. He leaves Aldbourne band after 3 years as principal euphonium, having also held that position with Woodfalls Band and Llwydcoed. Although a Welsh-sounding ‘Jones’, Danny is originally from Blackpool, but studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in Cardiff before joining British Army Band Tidworth in 2020, relinquishing the position and returning to Wales in 2023.

Musical Director of Cory Band Philip Harper commented: “Danny has been a great friend of the Cory Band for a number of years now, and played with us when we won the European title in 2022, as well as our tour to South Korea in the same year. He always has a very positive influence on those around him, as well as being a highly accomplished euphonium player, and I’m delighted to be able to welcome him as a full time player to the band.

“Like Stephen Sykes on Principal Trombone, Danny will join Cory Band immediately after the Welsh Regional at which the 2nd euphonium chair will be occupied by Andy Hicks who has recently left the Flowers Band.”

Commenting on his appointment, Danny said: “After such a long association with the Cory Band it’s a great privilege to make the jump and be joining the band full time. I’d like to thank everyone at Aldbourne for their friendship and support over the last three years and wish them every success for the future.
