We are pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Bond as Associate Composer. He will provide one major commission every year for a period of three years, as well as being involved in a number of smaller creative projects with the band.
Originally from Cornwall, Christopher studied for four years at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) where Cory Band is the band in residence. During his studies he first worked with some of the players in Cory Band, culminating in the composition of A New Dawn, the title track of Cory horn star Owen Farr’s recently-released solo CD.
Musical Director Philip Harper commented: “I’m so pleased to be able to announce this appointment and I look forward to working with Christopher who is a talented composer with a wholly professional attitude to his work. I first encountered Christopher some six years ago when he composed a fanfare for the 50th Anniversary of residential courses of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band of which I was the guest conductor. Since then I have watched his portfolio widen and his skill as a writer develop. We have three diverse new works planned for the next few years which promises to be an exciting time.”
Speaking about his appointment, Christopher Bond said: “This is an incredibly exciting partnership for me, which will enable me to work with the very best in the business to widen the repertoire and explore new possibilities in my writing. Philip and the rest of the team at Cory have made me feel so welcome already, I’m look forward to getting stuck in with the initial projects we have lined up.”
Christopher publishes his music at www.christopherbondmusic.co.uk where his brass band titles are available, with a selection of his brass chamber music to follow in the New Year.
