It’s been a busy year so far for Principal Cornet, Tom Hutchinson!

The Six Counties Wind Band
Tom’s first solo engagement of the year was as guest soloist of the Six Counties Youth Brass Band on their residential course in Llangrannog, the course is made up primarily of Neath, Port Talbot and Swansea which combine together several times a year as one. He was involved in this years course with his good friend and fellow Cory member Simon Howells (Principal Eb Tuba) who is a regular tutor within the music service. The course was also conducted by former Cory Euphonium player and musical director of the Goodwick Band Matthew Jenkins. He performed several solos including The Harry James version of Carnival of Venice and Cry Me River, this was also a great social week for the young players and it was fantastic to see the next generation of West Wales players coming through many of which are involved with local bands.
From this course, he headed straight to Bradford Upon-Avon to perform with Cory at the Wiltshire Music Centre which is always an enjoyable concert not least for the renowned buffet provided by our hosts the Bratton Silver Band! This week has then been spent in the bandroom under the direction of Nigel Seaman as we start preparation for a recording on the De Haske label and also for the Welsh Regional Contest in March.
This weekend, he heads off with Owen Farr to Scotland to The Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships in the Howden Park Centre Livingson.
